Repairing Cavities with Crowns and Fillings
March 12, 2013
Cavities are a common dental health concern. Despite your best efforts to brush, floss, and visit us at Framingham Premier Dental regularly, they can still occur. If you have a cavity, it is important to treat it before the decay has an opportunity to affect more of your tooth. Crowns and fillings are the best ways to treat cavities.
If the cavity is small and has not gone through your enamel yet, then a filling is the best solution to repair the decay. Dr. Gaitsgory will remove the decayed portion of your tooth and place the composite resin material on your tooth. It will be hardened using a special light, and since it’s tooth colored, it will resemble your natural teeth.
Crowns are used to repair cavities that have gone beyond the enamel and are now too large to be filled. We will remove the damaged and decayed portion of your tooth and take an impression. This impression will be used to make your crown. In the meantime, we will place a temporary crown, to restore function while your permanent crown is being custom made. Once it’s ready, you’ll come back in and we will place it, giving you a fully restored, natural looking tooth.
Crowns and fillings are great ways to help repair cavities. It is important to ensure that your teeth are healthy, so make sure to come see us regularly. The sooner we find a cavity, the easier it is to treat.
